Known and understood
Inclusion is a culture, not a separate entity. We seek to understand each student's strengths, aspirations and needs, remove barriers to participation and provide the right balance of support and challenge.
Support across the School
High expectations, accessible learning
High-quality classroom teaching is the foundation of our provision. Teachers use adaptive and evidence-informed approaches so learning remains accessible, appropriately challenging and engaging. Where additional provision is needed, support can include targeted groups, individual programmes, specialist teaching, assistive technology, reasonable adjustments and personalised targets.
Responsive by design
Working together around the child
Families are essential partners in successful inclusion. Parents are involved in identifying needs, planning support and reviewing progress. Where appropriate, the School also works with external professionals such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and other healthcare practitioners to create joined-up support.
Support also means stretch
Belong. Participate. Achieve. Flourish.
Inclusion extends beyond lessons. Through Houses, Rugby 360, sport, performing arts, leadership and service, students are encouraged to participate fully in School life and discover where their strengths can take them. Every member of the community has a part to play in making difference visible, respected and valued.
SEN and EAL
We are committed to providing an optimum learning environment in which all students can succeed, including those with additional needs.
In the Middle School, students may have learning development lessons in a small group in place of one subject option, while in the Upper School these lessons may be taken during study periods. Support sessions are available as needed, and a Learning Development teacher is assigned to each boarding House.
We offer tailored support through small-group lessons, individual weekly sessions with a Learning Development teacher and targeted help for specific difficulties. A wide range of resources is used, with a particular focus on literacy, including assistive software such as ClaroRead, Dragon voice recognition and mind-mapping programmes, alongside more traditional materials.
Classroom teachers receive regular INSET training and are kept informed about each student’s strengths, needs and effective strategies to support progress.
Our provision also includes support for students with English as an additional language and specific learning difficulties. We help students develop their English, advise classroom teachers and prepare students for IELTS examinations ahead of progression to a British university.
