Developing the whole athlete

Sport is an integral part of life at Rugby School Dubai. The ambition is to create an environment where every student can participate, progress and perform, whatever their starting point. A dedicated team of 18 PE specialists and sports coaches, supported by academic staff, helps make sport part of School life well beyond PE lessons.

Sport through the School

Pre-Prep and Prep

Students in Pre-Prep and Prep receive two hours of specialist-led curriculum sport each week, divided between PE and Games. PE develops physical literacy and fundamental movement through activities including water safety, gymnastics, swimming, strength and conditioning, athletics and volleyball.

In Pre-Prep Games, students build foundations through athletics, invasion games, striking and fielding, and ball skills, with a focus on enjoyment, confidence and teamwork. In Prep, the Games programme develops technical skill, tactical understanding and competitive confidence. Boys take part in football, rugby, cricket and basketball; girls take part in netball, rugby, cricket and basketball, alongside swimming and wider physical development.

Senior School

Every Senior School year group receives two hours of Games each week. Students in Years 7-9 also receive one hour of PE every other week. The programme places increasing emphasis on technical and tactical understanding, physical development, teamwork, leadership and competition, with opportunities for both recreational participation and performance pathways.

5 Opportunity for everyone

Opportunity for everyone

The programme is not only for first teams. Students are encouraged to find activities they enjoy, experience representing the School and recognise that sporting ability can be developed. Selection for representative teams considers commitment, development, attitude, teamwork and contribution as well as ability.

6 Performance pathways

Performance pathways

For students with the potential and ambition to progress further, developing performance pathways connect school sport with high-quality external clubs, academies and representative opportunities.

7 Competition

Competition

Students may represent the School through DASSA, BSME, DSG, the RSD fixture programme, tournaments, House Sport, community events and friendly fixtures, with opportunities developing as the School grows.

THE CLOSE

Birthplace of the game

At least two centuries of Rugby School's history are written in the stones and other monuments to tradition that stand around The Close at Rugby School in the UK, where in 1823, William Webb Ellis, with a fine disregard for the rules of football, took the ball in his arms and ran with it, creating the game of rugby football.
